How to become the best version of yourself

  1. Introduction

In today’s generation, where social media is influencing people’s minds, let’s examine its impact on one’s personality. People often aspire to become the best version of themselves, but procrastination through social media is where human beings often fall short, leading to self-comparison with others.

I will talk a bit about how to become the best version of yourself.

Every human being has the potential to be the “best version” that sometimes gets hidden behind our doubts, fears, comparisons, and comfort zones. “Becoming the best version of yourself” doesn’t mean becoming perfect, but instead becoming a little better every day – mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. The same thing I took 2 years to understand.

Life is like a roller coaster, where we face new experiences, people, and challenges every day. Learning from these, growing from our mistakes, and staying aligned with our values and ethics is the true meaning of self-improvement. Becoming the best version doesn’t just mean seeing the vision and achieving goals, but also enjoying the process. Living a balanced, peaceful, and purposeful life is the process that helps to become the best version; it is the same as growing a plant from a seed.

The first step in this beautiful journey is “self-awareness”.

Studies have shown that to become self-aware, understanding your strengths, weaknesses, and passions is of utmost importance. Only when you genuinely know yourself can you consciously shape your life.

This is followed by “discipline and consistency” to turn your dreams into reality.

But always remember, this journey is a marathon, not a race. Not every day will be perfect, not every decision will feel right – but progress and learning come with every attempt.

Becoming your best self is a personal choice, a personal evolution, where you are honest with yourself, challenge your own limits, and focus on your own well-being and growth.

Because in the end, becoming the best version means finding the most real, confident, and peaceful version of yourself. Having your mental peace, a healthy lifestyle, being happy, and enjoying the process will help you most to become the best of your own.

2. Know yourself deeply

The second step is to understand yourself deeply. Self-improvement is only possible when you have answers to questions like you know who you are, what you want from life, and what makes you truly happy. Too often, we live life on autopilot – meaning following routines, chasing the to-do list, and expecting the outcome from the day – but never taking the time to look within.

Self-understanding is like a mirror – showing you your true identity. When you understand your strengths, you can build on them. When you know your weaknesses, it becomes easier to manage them. When you know where you are lagging, you can improve on them. Noticing yourself, your patterns – like when you feel stressed, what situations triggered you to overthink, or what instantly uplifts your mood and makes you happen- all of this makes you emotionally and mentally smart.

I used to think journaling was a waste of time, and even if I started, I was clueless about what to write. But as time passed, I researched a lot about journaling and concluded that journaling is a powerful tool on this journey. When you write your thoughts down on paper, you gain clarity. You’d better understand your fears, dreams, habits, and feelings. This is what we refer to as Mindfulness.

Mindfulness is equally effective in this journey – in a few minutes of silence, you can filter out the noise in your mind and feel your true emotions. When you know yourself deeply, your life automatically fills with clarity. Decisions become easier, goals become clearer, and you begin to become an intentional, aware, and confident person.

“Start knowing yourself – everything else will come easy and start making sense after that.”

3. Set clear goals for growth

Becoming the best version of yourself means being unique and taking a different path. For some, excelling in their career is important, for others, mental peace is important, and for others, family and healthy relationships. So the first step is to define what “best version” means to you. Without clarity, growth feels like a blurring of the vision. You know what the destiny is, but what you don’t know is the pathway.

You need to conduct an honest evaluation of all the different areas of your life – career, health, mindset, goals, vision, mission, and relationships. Figure out what needs to be improved, what habits to break, and what goals make you feel truly inspired.

Then come “realistic and measurable goals”. These goals should be such that you can track your progress. For example:

  1. I want to get fit, instead of “I want to walk for 20 minutes every day.”
  2. I want to build confidence, instead of “I want to try one new activity a month.”
  3. I want to improve my career, instead of “I want to complete a certification in the next three months.”

Clear goals and a sharp vision give you direction, motivation, and purpose.

And most importantly, break goals into small, achievable steps. Small steps make progress easier, reduce overwhelm, and maintain consistency. Every small step is a mini-win that boosts your confidence to get going and moving forward with great enthusiasm.

Remember, big transformations start with small efforts.

4. Develop a positive mindset

Your mindset shapes your reality. The same situation can appear differently to two people –  the difference is their perspective. The difference is how they think, how they act, and how they take action. Mentally strong and successful people see “possibilities”, “opportunities”, not problems.

A positive mindset doesn’t mean you seek forced positivity in everything, but rather understanding that within every challenge lies a hidden opportunity. Have you ever noticed how self-talk helps? Replace your inner instinct with gentle encouragement, gentle appreciation.

And failures? They are not the enemy. Failures are learning, feedback. When you fail, you are learning from the experience, and the universe sends you the message that the method is not working.

Creating a positive mindset is a conscious choice – and this choice makes you a little more powerful every day.

5. Surround yourself with growth-oriented people

Your circle, your environment, matters a lot. They say, “You become like the people you spend the most of your time with.” So, if you want to become the best version of yourself, surround yourself with people who support you, push you to complete difficult tasks, and uplift you mentally, emotionally, and professionally.

First of all, “choose someone who inspires you.” Those who work hard, follow discipline, and chase dreams be with those who level up your mindset. Growth-oriented people support you, motivate you, and push you when you start doubting yourself. These are the people who see your potential, even if you can’t see it yourself.

Secondly, it is also important to have “healthy competition” in your circle. People who push you toward becoming better – with kindness, not pressure. Who gives you the confidence to try new skills and gently helps you when you get stuck in your comfort zone.

And most important – “stay away from toxic and draining influences.” Negativity, jealousy, gossip, constant pocking, back stabbing – these all quietly drain your energy. Staying away from such people is a sign of both self-respect and self-care.

6. Prioritize self-care and mental health

Hard work alone isn’t enough to become the best version of yourself – “self-care” and “mental health” are equally important. Many people consider self-care a luxury, but the reality is that “rest, boundaries, and peace” are part of progress. When you are tired, overwhelmed, or emotionally and mentally drained, both your mind and body need to slow down. So taking breaks, saying “no”, and creating a safe space for yourself is an indication of strength.

Self-care means taking time for yourself. Protecting your energy, valuing yourself, valuing your time, and filtering unnecessary stress by setting boundaries and prioritizing your inner and mental peace.

The two most powerful tools for healthy and wealthy mental health are meditation and journaling. While meditation clears your mind, reduces stress, and improves focus, journaling gives you a safe space to understand, process, and express your emotions.

7. Keep learning and stay curious

Learning and staying curious are what make you a unique person and the best version of yourself. The best version doesn’t always define achieving the goals; it also means keeping your mind open to learn, exploring new ideas, and mentally growing yourself day by day. When you gain knowledge, you gain confidence, your perspective changes, and you can make life decisions with greater clarity and wisdom.

Reading books is one of the simplest ways to increase knowledge. When you read self-help books, you can understand a clear pathway, when you read biographies, you know the strengths and weaknesses, and when you read fiction, you understand the personality. Every book teaches something new, unique. Similarly, listening to podcasts when you are busy is a perfect spice to add while learning.

In the 21st century, every skill is available on the internet, be it communication, productivity, finance, health, or personal development. When you learn new skills, your confidence naturally grows, you glow differently, and you get closer to your goals.

In my opinion, Curiosity means approaching every situation with a new mindset. For example, “What can I learn from this?”. That said, “a curious mind is a powerful mind.”

8.Embrace change and challenges

Changes and challenges are a part and parcel of life. Embracing them is the most important step in self-growth. We often forget this important step. To become the best version of yourself, you must step out of your comfort zone.

Just as a caterpillar emerges from a cocoon and becomes a beautiful butterfly, we too should transform by stepping out of our comfort zone. It’s easy to feel safe inside a cocoon, but growth always comes after the struggle to break free. Real beauty, strength, confidence, and growth always come after discomfort. Leaving your comfort zone is certainly difficult, but the transformation is totally worth it.

Avoiding change looks easy, but in the long term, it blocks growth. When you learn to accept new responsibilities, the discomfort zone, and new people, you become mentally and emotionally stronger. It took me a while to understand that stepping out of my comfort zone is essential for achieving growth.

Setbacks are part of the journey. If something doesn’t go according to plan, don’t blame yourself. I used to blame myself every single time, but when I understood, my perspective on seeing failure changed. Failures are the stepping stones to success, but when you see failure, it becomes an actual failure when you don’t learn from them.

In short, don’t fear change – welcome it. Thinking of it as a stepping stone, not roadblocks, and move forward.

9.Celebrate your progress

And, last but not least, celebrate the journey. We all chase future goals so much that we never stop to see how far we have actually come. When you appreciate yourself, your small achievements, you mentally reward yourself. This gratitude boosts self-confidence and doubles the motivation. Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s journey. Your struggles are all unique. Just compare yourself to the version of yourself yesterday – if you are even 1% better today, that is worth celebrating.

Always remember, value yourself, and celebrate even small successes on the way to your goal.
